My 2 Cents Worth - Editor's Chit-Chat



Hi All!

Welcome to another Sunday with yours truly and thanks so much for letting me be a small part of your day. :~) If you're new today, a warm welcome to you. I hope you'll enjoy the issue.

Spring is in the air here in northern Michigan! Unfortunately, there's still snow on the ground, but it's slowly melting, so that's a good thing. But at the rate it's going, it'll take another week to all go away. :(

I finally bowled my first 200 game last week during my bowling league! It was very exciting for me, especially since my average is only 123.

I'm sure some of you watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition on Sunday nights. If so, you're familiar with the famous bus that arrives at the homes they're going to rebuild.

Well, that bus pulled up at a house in Schenactady, New York this past Thursday, not far from the restaurant where my two daughters work.

My 18 year old has had a crush on Ty Pennington ever since the show started, so she's hoping she gets a chance to see him and the rest of the design team. LOL

In fact, her boss's wife managed to meet the design team and invited them to the restaurant. She told them her husband will give the whole TV crew (all 40 of them) a free meal. So I guess there's a good chance my daughters might actually meet them.

She said they're very down to earth and they've been happily talking to the public and signing autographs.

My son-in-law's company is providing campers for the work crew while they're building the house. And my son-in-law, Dan, gets to do an interview with the TV crew on behalf of his company. Dan's also one of the volunteers who is building the new house.

It's really great the way the whole community is pitching in to donate money and supplies. But if you're familiar with the show, you know it happens everywhere the EMHE crew goes.

The story of the family whose home they're rebuilding is so heart-wrenching they've decided to make this their 2 hour season finale in May.

How to Pull In As Much Profit As Your Wallet Will Hold
With Opt-In Lists

The fortune is in the list.

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that said, well, I'd already have a fortune! :-)

However "broken-recordish" it may sound, it is a truthful statement. The fortune REALLY IS in the list.

Fact is, if you possess the knowledge of how to grow and profit from opt-in lists, you can pretty much write your own ticket.

And, if you'll read the remainder of this article, I'll pass that knowledge right on to ya.

It comes down to getting folks to do four things...

1. REQUEST. First things first, you need to convince people to "opt-in" to your list. That is, get them to join your list of their own free will.

Usually, this involves giving away a mini-course, report or newsletter from your web site. All you need is..

- An Attention Grabbing Title. (I could have chosen "4 Keys to Successful Email Promotions" for this article, but is that as attention-grabbing as "How to Pull in As Much Profit As Your Wallet Will Hold From Opt-In Lists"?)

- A Handful of Bulleted Benefits. (A short list of 4-6 desirable things subscribers will learn if they join your list. Think "what's in it for me?")

- An Opt-In Submission Form. (Your autoresponder system will provide this for you.)

NOTE: The BEST way to get folks to join is to embed the above mentioned items DIRECTLY in the most prominent place you have your site visitors' attention. Usually this is 3-5 paragraphs into your sales letter or 1/3 of the way into an ezine article.

2. RECEIVE. After visitors to your site have "requested" information by joining your list, it's critical that your emails be delivered successfully to their inbox. With all of the filters in place (among other hazards) this can be quite a chore.

One thing you'll want to do for certain is check your SPAM rating to make certain it's in an acceptable range. Again, most of the better autoresponder services offer this feature for you.

You can also do things like...

- Get your subscribers to "approve" mailings from you.

- Authenticate yourself as a legitimate mailer when you receive a "response challenge" from protection services such as Spam Arrest.

- Use alternative formats of your email messages such as "downloadable email messages" in PDF format.

3. READ. When your emails successfully arrive at the inboxes of your subscribers, another task awaits - getting them to actually open your message and read it.

This is going to depend upon your "subject line". It is paramount that your subject line be intriguing enough to convince your readers to stop what they are doing and take a look inside.

One way to get this done is to create a swipe file of email subject lines that have convinced YOU to read the messages and then modify those subject lines for your own use.

Ex. I received an email that had the subject line of "This affiliate tip is almost too easy" that caught my attention and forced me to read the associated message.

This subject line could easily be used in a variety of different niches...

- This dieting tip is almost too easy
- This time management tip is almost too easy
- This marriage saving tip is almost too easy

4. RESPOND. When you have convinced your subscribers to open your email message and read its contents, the only remaining "task" is to get them to respond.

You want them to take action. Click a link. Go somewhere. Ultimately, spend money with you.

The only way you'll be able to do this is follow a simple catch phrase I've been teaching for years: "useful, but incomplete".

It simply means this: your messages must provide content that is useful to your subscribers (otherwise, they'll unsubscribe faster than you can say "oops"!), but is also "incomplete" in that there is some additional offer that could enhance or maximize that content.

Ex. You might write an article that shares "7 Ways to Profit With Autoresponders" to send to your list. That's "useful" information to those who are interested in that particular topic. It's also "incomplete" because they need an autoresponder service to put the information into action. That's your cue to promote your recommended autoresponder service.

If you want to pad your wallet with profits by using opt-in lists, this is how you do it:

Get people to do these four things

- Request
- Receive
- Read
- Respond

9 Ways To Sell Your Products Faster

1. Give people a deadline to order. Tell them if they order by March 28, 2007 they'll get a discount or free bonuses. This will create an urgency so they don't put off buying.

2. Offer people a money back guarantee. The longer the guarantee, the more effective it will be. It could be a 30 day, 60 day, 1 year, or lifetime guarantee.

3. Publish testimonials on your sales page. They'll give your business credibility and you'll gain your visitors trust. It's important to include the person's full name and location with the testimonial.

4. Give people free bonuses when they order your product or service. The free bonuses could be books, jewelry, reports, newsletters, etc.

5. Allow people to make money reselling your product or service. Tell them they can join your affiliate program if they order. You could pay them per sale, per click, per referral, etc.

6. Offer free 24 hour help with all products you sell. Allow customers to ask you questions by e-mail, by toll free phone, by free fax, etc.

7. Provide free shipping with all orders. If you can't afford it, you could offer free shipping on orders over a specific dollar amount.

8. Give away a free sample of your product. You will gain people's trust when you allow them to try out a free sample of your product. If they like it, they won't hesitate to buy it.

9. Offer a buy one, get one free deal. If you sell more than one product this type of deal works great. People will feel they are getting more for their money and order quicker.

What a great rant! I couldn't agree with you more. Something needs to be done but I'm not sure what the best answer is. They could start by putting a temporary halt on immigration. Did you know that when someone enters this country, even legally, they don't have to pay taxes for 7 years? I know this to be fact because my first wife's sister [married a mexican.] They've been married for over 25 years now. And let me tell you, he is one hard working SOB. He's always held 2 or 3 jobs and she held one of her own. But here's the kicker. This guy really wanted to do his part. He actually wanted to pay taxes just like the rest of us and the government said no. He had to wait 7 years. Then he became a US citizen and started paying taxes! One of these days I'm going to write my congressmen and ask them, "When the hell am I going to get my 7 years tax free?" What kind of response do you think I'll get to that one? Ha-Ha!

On another subject I've said the same thing as you for years. Why don't we take care of our own first, then we can help other countries. All these commercials you see on TV these days about children with no food, clothing, or medical help in other countries always asking for money really aggravate me. Don't get me wrong I really feel sorry for them. I think it's a shame that anyone has to live under those kind of conditions, especially this day in age. But when there are people in similar circumstances here I think we should take care of them first! I've also been hearing for years that we as a country were going to develop a national health care plan. I wonder when we're ever going to see that. In my case my employer pays for all of my insurance to the tune of $750 month plus. But in order to get insurance for my wife and stepdaughter I would have to pay an additional $450 month! Who do you think can afford that? My wife has needed gall bladder surgery for 3 years and hasn't had it because we can't afford it. The surgery alone costs $10-12,000 plus other expenses which would total over $15,000!

Well, hell Denise. If I keep this up, we'll both be here all night! See what happens when you get me started! Anyway I hope you don't mind, but I copied and pasted your article in wordpad and sent it to all my friends and relatives along with the joke, the missing dot.

I love your rant on Illegal Imigration. I agree with you. You should try living in Arizona. You can't get a job here unless you speek Mexican. If you do you receive a lower wage than a Mexican. The stores have both American and Mexican in their adds. The Mexican is on the top and in larger letters. In some stores the Mexican flag flies above the Amercian flag. You cannot always speek to the store clerks because they do not speek Amercian.

I want to move back to the United States. I have written to Government Offiicals and they say they are working on it.

If the United States Government did not want the Illegals here the only language allowed would be American and the 14th amendment would not be misused to allow the illegal breaders to have their babies here and call them citizens. The 14th Amendment was only created to insure citizenship for the slaves after they received their freedom

My rant for the day.
