Welcome to another Sunday with yours truly and thanks so much for letting me be a small part of your day. :~) If you're new today, a warm welcome to you. I hope you'll enjoy the issue. It's been a beautiful spring weekend here in northern Michigan. In fact, most of the week was nice. The temperature is supposed to warm up to 70 degrees today and the sun is shining. It'll be a good day to get outside and weed the flower beds. Now, if only I can figure out exactly which green things are the weeds and which ones are the plants... LOL The spring and summer activities are starting, too. My neice makes her First Communion next week and my cousin's daughter is getting married the following week. My youngest daughter is coming home for a visit on the 18th, just after the semester ends at her college. She'll be here for 10 days, then she has to return to New York so she can get back to work. Then in July all of my kids are coming home for a visit at the same time. It'll be the first time we've all been together in 3 years, since my oldest daughter's wedding in August 2004. And it'll be the first time I've seen my granddaughters in almost 2 years. We're planning a get-together with my brothers and our cousins, too - just a BBQ at my house, but it'll be so much fun! OK, enough of my spring fever. :~) It's time to let you get on with the rest of the issue... Today's feature article and expert advice column go hand in hand. They both discuss the importance of list-building and follow-up, so give them both a read. You'll find a free report at the end of the article, so be sure you grab it. I'll see you here in 2 weeks. Others don't feel they should send follow-up emails to their list, just a one-time mailing when new members request information or a weekly newsletter, but no sales info. The funny thing is, offline businesses use the same marketing concepts all the time and no one thinks twice about it. Maybe an example of offline list-building and follow-up will help put the concept of making money from your opt-in list into perspective... I sold Avon products 20+ years ago. As an Avon representative I had to find my own customers by talking to friends and relatives and going door to door. After all, how could anyone order from me if they didn't know I sold it? By contacting people on the phone or knocking on their door, I was building a list of prospects, people who might be interested in buying at some point. This equates to building an opt-in list online. Every two weeks I would give these prospects Avon's current sale catalog with my name and phone number on the back. A few would call me and place an order. But I discovered that if I called the others to remind them the sale was ending in a couple of days, my sales tripled! This process of giving prospects new catalogs and checking back to get their order, equates to follow up emails in online terms. The money really is in the list, both online and offline - it's easier to sell to existing customers and prospects than to go out and find new ones. Do you see what happened with follow-up? My sales TRIPLED! If I hadn't made some phone calls (online = emails) to follow up with potential customers my income would have been only 1/3 of what it was. I would have had to do 3 times the work to make the same amount of money. I was reluctant at first to follow-up with my Avon prospects, afraid they would feel I was like the pushy car salesmen we all hate. But I learned that with a little nudge (follow-up) my sales tripled. And without it, I was leaving money on the table. The same marketing principal applies to online marketing... list-building and follow-up are the key to generating a good income rather than just putting a few extra bucks in your pocket. --------------------------------------------------------- This simple, yet powerful, 6-step system will show you how to grow your list, provide your readers with the content they crave and start making more money than you ever imagined from your list. The man said, "I do Father." The priest said, "Then stand over there against the wall." Then the priest asked the second man, "Do you want to go to heaven?" "Certainly, Father," was the man's reply. "Then stand over there against the wall," said the priest. Then Father Murphy walked up to O'Toole and said, "Do you want to go to heaven?" O'Toole said, "No, I don't Father. The priest said, "I don't believe this. You mean to tell me that when you die you don't want to go to heaven?!" O'Toole said, "Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now!" Expert Advice Each week I'll publish some tips or advice. I'll try to cover every subject I can think of, but if you have any suggestions, please send them to me at the e-mail address listed below. Chris wrote and asked: I'm sure I'm not alone on this subject, but most people tell 'us newbies' that it takes seven or so follow-up messages to a prospect. First of all, is this true? If so, don't you think that these 'prospects' would get sick and tired of that person's emails and just disregard the rest? I know I have from previous marketers. I mean, it's bad enough getting crap in your inbox every day from people you don't even know, let alone several repeat emails trying to get you to sign-up or buy their product. And when you do send a follow-up series to your prospects, how many days do you send them for and at what intervals. Also, I've been given a double opt-in list of 20,000 leads to email to. How would you go about emailing them? Are there special things you have to say, like: I have received your email address as someone looking to make an income online. And these leads are just a one-time email aren't they? Even if they are, do I still have to put an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email? To be totally honest, autoresponders 'scare' me. I just have no idea how to use them or what to put in them, how to get people to subscribe to it etc etc... I replied to Chris personally, but thought this was a good topic for today's issue. Here's my reply: I would say if the leads are more than 7 days old, don't email them at all. I say this because people have a very short memory span and they may have forgotten they requested information. That could lead to a lot of spam complaints against you. However, I do know some people will use leads up to 30 days old, so it's up to you. But if you do email them, you'll want to use a blurb at the top that says something like "I've been given your name as someone who was interested in (topic)." Depending on your autoresponder, if it's double opt-in, at the point of this first contact your leads would have to confirm their desire to be on your list. If your autoresponder isn't double opt-in, you can continue your blurb with "you may remove yourself at any time by using the link at the bottom." As for the number and frequency of follow-ups, yes, it really does take several contacts generally before people will buy. If your product is seasonal, you would want to email a bit more frequently than if it's not, with information about the product. If you're not selling a specific product, but just getting subscribers to your newsletter, then you'll probably want to send them a variety of info, both free and paid resources, etc. Send your suggestions or questions for the experts: mailto:denise@home-business-on-a-budget.com?subject=ExpertAdvice Advertising Options Advertise in Home Business on a Budget Newsletter Inexpensively: http://www.home-business-on-a-budget.com/advertising.htm Get your ad seen by hundreds of thousands of Ezine Readers: http://www.home-business-on-a-budget.com/adservices.htm Free Stuff How To Create An e-Course In Only One Day: http://www.7BuckOffers.com/Create-Ecourse.pdf (Right-click and "save target as") How to Produce Profits By Using the Power of Email Marketing: http://www.7BuckOffers.com/6KeysToEmailResults.pdf (Right-click and "save target as") Six Steps To Six Figures With List Marketing: http://www.7BuckOffers.com/6StepsTo6Figures.pdf (Right-click and "save target as") How to Triple Your Opt-In Requests Without Spending a Penny: http://www.7BuckOffers.com/TripleYourOptins.pdf (Right-click and "save target as") 5 Steps To A Big Profit, Small Report Business: http://www.7BuckOffers.com/5Steps.pdf (Right-click and "save target as") Parable For The Internet Marketer: http://www.home-business-on-a-budget.com/Dinglebert.pdf (Right-click and "save target as") Bottom Sponsor Ad Still Dreaming of Financial Freedom?
