My 2 Cents Worth - Editor's Chit-Chat



Hi All!

Welcome to another Sunday with yours truly and thanks so much for letting me be a small part of your day. :~) If you're new today, a warm welcome to you. I hope you'll enjoy the issue.

I hope you had a great week. Mine would have been fantastic, but there was a terrible tragedy in our little town on Wednesday.

Three 17 year old girls, all heading into their senior year of high school in the fall along with my daughter, were in a horrible car accident. Unfortunately, a Chevy Blazer is no match for a dump truck. I've never seen anything so awful in my life.

The driver was killed instantly, and her two passengers were taken to the local hospital, where one was flown to a hospital 2 hours away. That girl is the daughter of my boss at Wal-Mart. She has extensive internal and head injuries and several broken bones, but her condition has now been upgraded to "good."

The third girl suffered numerous cuts and bruises, but thankfully she left the hospital after being treated. Her mother works at Wal-Mart, too, so things were pretty somber at work on Thursday.

OK, enough of that subject. I've got tears in my eyes again. It's pretty hard to type that way.

A Simple Secret To Seducing The Search Engines

In the Internet Marketing community, "traffic" and search engine mastery are hot topics these days...

People will do almost ANYTHING just to get their site indexed by Google faster... to boost their Page Rank quicker... to drive more traffic immediately... and to get a ton of incoming links to their website right away...

Yes, even if it involves handing over $137 for the latest push-button traffic software or search engine trick.

Why all the fuss?

In this article, I'm going to reveal to you a simple, no cost way to make the search engines crawl all over your website like ants on a melted popsicle.

PLUS... you will start to get laser-targeted traffic and boost your search engine rankings almost instantly. Not to mention, you'll have (at least) 100 quality links back to your website within a week.

And this doesn't involve any SEO hocus-pocus, buying into some new "killer" traffic booster software, or trying out the latest scheme to fool Google, Yahoo, or MSN.

Nope. This stuff is 100% legit, above-board, and has already worked for years.

Let me give you a quick example. Recently I created a little "test" website.

The search engines didn't know about it. It had no incoming links. No traffic. No SE rankings...ZIP!

Fast forward 7 days... My website was indexed by Google, Yahoo and MSN, it got well over 200 incoming links and started to generate traffic... shortly thereafter, Google granted my site a Page Rank 3.

Again, this did not cost a penny, just a few hours of my time. I created a play-by-play video that shows the website and how I did it (see the weblink below).

Here's another example: An "average guy" decided to try this same strategy. He now has #1-#8 rankings on all the major search engines. You can listen to him explain how de did it during a recent audio interview:

So, how can you get these same kind of results?

I wish I could make this sound more complicated but, all that you need to do is simply submit one article to a handful of Article Directories.

Writing and submitting articles has long been a proven, time-tested strategy for increasing traffic, subscribers and sales.

But now in 2005, articles have re-emerged in a BIG way, thanks to recent information leaked by Google within their US Patent Application 20050071741.

We now know that quality content and incoming links are essential (now, more than ever) to the survival of your websites within the search engines.

Bottom line. You need to start creating and submitting articles to get all the benefits I just outlined above.

In fact, Google is practically telling you to do so! But, where do you start? Where should you submit your articles?

Here's a blueprint that outlines the 7 keys to writing successful articles.

Follow these 7 keys and you are guaranteed to get more traffic, more incoming links and higher search engine rankings and page rank, by simply distributing your articles across the Internet.

Let's get started.

Key #1: Choose a HOT Topic

You'll need to do a little research on this one. If you are already familiar with the target market for your article, this should come easy. Research, spy, observe. Do whatever it takes to understand your target market. What issues are hot? What topics currently appear within top ezines, messageboards, ebooks? What keywords are they using to search online?

It's also a good idea to frequently visit article directories and content sites. These sites contain current articles on a variety of popular topics. Often, you can view the most popular article topics (or clicks) as well.

Key #2: Choose a "Magnetic" Title

Magnetic title? That's right. Your article title is your headline. If it doesn't pull the reader into the article, nothing will. Just think ... what if I called this article:

"Get More Traffic In The Search Engines", "Easy Search Engine Tips", or "Free Traffic Generation Strategies".

BLAH! See what I mean? These don't pack much "punch", do they?

Your title is just like a classified ad. Look at it this way. If your article title is crowded on a webpage with 100 others, what will make it jump off the page?


Key #3: Use The AIDA Principle

Attention Interest Desire Action

This universal formula applies to your articles as well. Once you've enticed your reader to read your article (via a great title), you need to keep them reading.

The first paragraph of your article is critical. If it's dull, boring and lifeless, your reader will surely bail out. You must keep their interest right from the start. Try using short paragraphs, sentences and words. This will keep the tempo upbeat and make your article much easier to read (or skim, as most do online).


Key #4: Create Several Sub-Headings

To better organize your thoughts, divide your article into sub-headings. At times, writing a 500-700 word article can seem insurmountable. Sub-headings make things easier. Instead of tackling the entire article at once, try writing one paragraph at a time.


Key #5: "Close The Sale" With A Resource Box

One of the worst things you can do is to leave your reader hanging. They've just read your great article, now what? A resource box appears at the very end of your article. It's the last line that your reader sees. It's your chance to set the next step.

Make sure that your resource box is compelling. Make the reader jump over to your website, sign up for your ezine, download your latest ebook, claim their free gift -- get creative!

Also, the resource box allows you to include a direct link back to your website. Sit back and watch your link popularity soar!


Key #6: Poofread Your Work

Did you catch that? It should have read, "Proofread". Nothing hollers out amateur, newbie, or just plain unprofessional than an article filled with typos and bad grammar. If you don't have an English major in the family, hire a proofreader. Their rates are reasonable and they can save you from damaging your reputation online.


Key #7 - Promote, promote, promote

Let's make one thing clear. Without key #7, keys 1-6 are a waste of time. Bottom line, no one will read your article if you keep it stored on a floppy disk in your desk.

You've got to promote it!

How can you promote your article? There are close to 90 article directories, article banks, free content sites, article announcement lists, and article syndication services out there. And the best part is ... 95% of them are FREE!

Plus, there are thousands of ezines, websites and blogs that are looking for article submissions. Develop a list of contacts in your target market. Next, e-mail each ezine publisher, blog owner, or webmaster a copy of your latest article. There are countless stories of individuals who have succeeded using this exact same approach.

Google Is About To Shake Again: Part 1

Back in the summer of 2004, Google forced uproar within the internet community. Thousands were affected by having been dropped from the search engines totally and some even experienced being banned by the Mega-Search Daddy.

Well, like all quakes there will be tremors to follow. According to Google's latest shake is the filing for a US patent 20050071741 on March 31, 2005. And, again this time the shake will prove devastating for some unsuspecting long term grandfathered sites.

Not only has Google made it apparently clear that it will eventually "flush" the old to invite the new but, Google has also revealed its criteria on what was acceptable and not acceptable with the current linking strategies commonly used.

Since Google is largely focused on their new algorithms that effect linking, there are a few things you should know.

1. Reciprocal links will now only carry weight towards page rank if the link is relevant to the theme of your site. In other words, if your site is about cookbooks, don't get caught linking back to a site about gun cases. That might be tempting if you have a page that displays recipes for venison but, Google will probably not make the connection.

2. Links either back linked or forward linked are now given a history data algorithm. This means that old or stale links that have not been maintained as fresh and updated information will be penalized. Dispose of broken or dead links. Rotate newer updated links to the top of their perspective categories within your linking directories on a monthly routine bases.

3. Anchor Text now has its own score as well. When reciprocating links it is no longer acceptable to Google to have too many backward links using the same key phrase. This is now considered "Anchor Spam". Vary your anchor text using several different pertinent key phrases matching the theme of your site.

4. The use of Third party Link Exchanges are now under their radar. Make sure your Link Directory is hosted on your server and not by a third party. All links should be relevant to your site theme. Organically grow your link directory; using artificial link injection will get you flagged.

The Fishing Trip

A man calls home to his wife and says, "Honey I have been asked to go fishing at a big lake up in Canada with my boss and several of his friends. We'll be gone for a week. 7 Tips to Beat the Summertime Sales Slump

Life on the Internet slows down to a snail's pace during the summer. Internet marketers see a rapid decline in website traffic and sales when the weather is fit for summer activities. Here are a few ideas to help you keep a positive cash-flow going during these sluggish times.

1. Have a blowout, limited-time sale. Put together a package of your best-selling products and offer it to your list members and website visitors for one low price.

2. Joint venture with other marketers to offer your package to their opt-in lists. Be sure to offer a generous (50% or more) commission to your JV partners.

3. Cross-promote products with other list owners. For instance, if you sell web hosting services, find a partner who does website design. Create a special deal on each service. You'll both benefit by the other offering the complementary service to your lists.

4. Try something different to generate sales and/or subscribers. Create ad campaigns with Google AdWords, for example, if you've never used it before. People will still surf the web looking for things during the summer. You just need to "get yourself out there" and help them find you.

5. Revamp your web pages by adding new content. Search engines love updated content, so the more quality content you have, the higher your search engine rankings. You'll gain more website traffic, leading to more sales and/or subscribers.

6. Write new articles and submit them to article directories, ezine publishers and website owners who are looking for good content for their sites. You'll get lots of free traffic when people visit your link in the resource box.

7. Create a brand new product. New products always start off with a bang. Offer a limited-time introductory price to persuade your customers to buy right away.
