My 2 Cents Worth - Editor's Chit-Chat

Hi All!

Welcome to another Sunday with yours truly and thanks so much for letting me be a small part of your day. :~) If you're new today, a warm welcome to you. I hope you'll enjoy the issue.

It's hard to believe summer is almost over. Next weekend is Labor Day weekend already! Why is it that summer goes so fast and winter goes so s-l-o-w? LOL

A few days ago I promised you another one of my famous "Denise is a Dork" stories, and several of you wrote asking me about it, so here's what happened...

My son was mowing the lawn and one of the wheels came off of the mower. He couldn't find the nut that came loose and caused it to fall off so he went to the hardware store to get another one.

He left the lawnmower turned upside down in the driveway while he was gone. When he returned he discovered that something had leaked out of it. I thought it was gas and he thought it was oil, but whatever it was was black and had run through the foam air filter in order to leak out.

Now, I'm sure all the men reading this can picture where the air filter is, but for the ladies I'll explain in just a minute.

I took off the air filter. It was filthy and, of course, wet. For some reason I decided maybe it WAS oil, not gas, that leaked so I sent my son back to the hardware store for a new filter and a quart of oil.

He changed the filter and I looked down into the hole the "oil" had leaked out of and decided if that's where it had leaked from, that must be where I should put more oil.

OK, guys, I know you're cracking up by now. Ladies, it'll all make sense in a minute. :~)

After I poured some new oil into it my son replaced the filter, then tried to start the motor. Each time he pulled the string some of the black liquid came shooting out of the exhaust.

He was afraid the thing was going to explode and was reluctant to keep trying to start it. He finally got it going and a huge amount of thick smoke poured out of the exhaust, which I expected because of the "oil" that had come out of it.

In looking around at the lawnmower a bit more I discovered the dipstick for the oil. (Yea, I know... I'm a dipstick!) I knew right then I hadn't put the oil in the right place. LOL

I went next door and talked to the neighbor. It turns out that I had poured oil into the carburator. OOPS! Duh! I know the air filter sits on top of the carburator and that oil does NOT go in there. Where was my head?

The neighbor cleaned off the spark plug and put more oil where it really belongs, then he started it up. It smoked a bit more, but it ran just fine. LOL

Whew! For a few minutes I thought I was going to have to buy a new lawnmower just because a wheel fell off. Usually when I try to fix things myself it ends up costing me more money, so I guess I got lucky this time. LOL

OK, let's move onto other news. I'm a little outraged over this...

I'm sure you remember the case of mistaken identity of two college students after a horrific car accident in the spring of 2006. The girl who was thought to be dead is from my town but she's the one who is actually alive. If you want to read more about it you'll find it in the editorial here.

The truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel and caused the accident went to court last week. The judge gave him 4 years in jail and 4 years probation! The guy killed 5 people, critically injured 4 others and he got a slap on the wrist!

I think it's a terrible injustice for the accident victims and their families, especially since two families went through extra hell because of the mistaken identities. The truck driver was 9 hours over his legal driving limit and this wasn't his first offense.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the matter. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Enough rambling from me. :~) It's time to let you get on with the rest of the issue.

I'll see you here in 2 weeks. Until then, be profitable!

Denise

10 Ways To Use Private Label Rights Articles To Help Improve Your Online Business

By Shem Cruz

Private label articles or PLR articles are a time saver for busy internet marketers who do not want to write high quality articles from scratch. With these ready-made articles in their arsenal, they can now do anything with them as they please. But what exactly can you do with these PLR articles to help improve your business?

1. Use them as web content. The most old-fashioned way to use PLR articles is to use them as articles for your websites. If you are a member of some PLR article membership site, the thought that only a limited number of people will receive them sounds a good excuse for you not to edit them, but you still need to do some editing to make sure the search engines will not accuse you of using similar content.

With these articles in hand, you'll be able to save your time in creating original and useful content, and your visitors will find your website helpful in educating them in various interests.

2. Use them as mini ecourse to build your list and to increase your sales. Mini ecourses are a series of lessons of a certain topic, given to you in intervals over a period of time. If you have a product which you sell online, use the PLR articles to entice your visitors to sign up for your mini ecourse so that in case they don't buy, you have their email address to do some follow up. Over time some of those who signed up for your mini ecourse will consider buying from you, thereby doubling your sales.

3. Compile the articles into a free report, have an ecover and landing page for it made, and direct as much traffic as you can to your landing page. Giving away a free report can help you capture more prospects and email addresses so you can do some selling to them, whether it's a product you are affiliated with or a product of your own.

4. Use them as bonus to an existing product you sell. A customer will likely buy a product if it has some incentives. In this case, you can edit your PLR articles by adding more information and compile them into a report which supports your product.

5. Compile the articles into an ebook and make it your product. Since most PLR articles come in a standard 500-word format, expand the thought of these articles by hiring a freelance writer do all the work for you. Create an ecover for it, a sales page, and start promoting. For viral traffic, from your thank you page and your ebook link back to your websites and other recommended products so you will earn extra commissions.

6. Create your own product based on the articles. Instead of rewriting the articles you have, you can create your entire product from scratch using the articles as your inspiration.

7. Turn the articles into an ebook and make it a bonus to a product you are promoting. Since you're not the only one in the world who is an affiliate to the product you promote, how can you convince your visitors to buy from your affiliate link instead of your competitors' affiliate links?

You can create an exclusive bonus to make them buy from you. By offering them an incentive you are giving them a reason to buy from your link. People love free incentives, and with this you need a product which cannot be found anywhere else. You can make your product creation easier by editing and expanding the thought of your PLR articles, and turning them into an ebook. Brand it with a professional look by creating an ecover and set up a page explaining to your visitors that you will give the product for free if they buy from your affiliate link. This will help increase your affiliate sales.

8. Write original articles based on the PLR articles you have, submit them to as many article banks and ezines as you can. In your resource box link back to your websites for viral traffic.

9. Use the PLR articles for your ezines. You are probably subscribed to a number of newsletters which you've unsubscribed to because they are nothing more than plain sales pitches. If you own an ezine you do not want your subscribers to unsubscribe from your ezine, because it will hurt your sales, too.

If you want your subscribers to stay in your newsletter allot 80% of your ezine for valuable content. You will not have any excuse now because you can use your PLR articles as your content. And the remaining 20% can be used for genuine product reviews, or any product you're promoting. This way you can still make money while providing useful content.

10. Compile the PLR articles into a yearend report and give it to your past and present buyers, as a gift. They will aprreciate it and it will likely avoid refunds because you are giving them bonuses that add more value to the product you are selling.

These ten ideas are only some of the many things you can do with PLR articles. While they are a time saver, they will be useless if you let them sit in your hard drive for long, so start using them to help improve your business.

A burglar needing money to pay his income taxes decided to burgle the safe in a store. On the safe door he was very pleased to find a note reading,

"Please don't use dynamite. The safe is not locked. Just turn the handle."

He did so. Instantly a heavy sandbag fell on him, the entire premises were floodlighted, and alarms started clanging.

As the police carried him out on a stretcher, he was heard moaning: "Can't trust nobody no more!"

Expert Advice

Each week I'll publish some tips or advice. I'll try to cover every subject I can think of, but if you have any suggestions, please send them to me at the e-mail address listed below.

10 Upsell Strategies That Will Increase Your Profits

As you know, it can be very expensive to attract new customers. You can cut down on those expenses by "upselling" to those new customers. For example, let's say you're selling a computer with a 15" monitor for $1200. You tell people they can upgrade to a 17" monitor for only $200 more. That's upselling! Your goal is to get more money out of the first sale. Below are ten upselling strategies you can use to increase your profits.

1. Deluxe Upsell - You could sell a basic product and tell people for a little more money they can receive the deluxe edition.

2. Money Upsell - You could offer people the rights to sell the product they are buying from your business. You could charge an extra $30 dollars to get the reproduction rights.

3. Discount Upsell - If you're selling a product people may order again in the future like shave gel, you could offer them a second can of shave gel at a discount.

4. Time Upsell - If you're selling a product or service people subscribe to, like a magazine, you could tell them if they subscribe for two years instead of one, they can receive it half off the cover price.

5. Quantity Upsell - This is similar to the discount upsell. The only difference is you increase the discount by how many products they order. If they order 3 it's a 10% discount, if they order 5 it's a 15% discount.

6. Package Upsell - When you're selling a product you could offer similar products in a package deal. Tell the people the other products are cheaper with the package deal versus purchasing them separately.

7. Affiliate Upsell - When you're selling a product you could offer someone else's product as an upsell. You would have to make a commission on the product in order to profit.

8. Free Upsell - You could offer a free sample or trial of your product (your first sale would be free) and then tell people if they order the full version right now they will get a discount.

9. Extra Upsell - There are many things you could charge extra for at the time of sale. It could be gift wrapping, imprinting, custom designs, etc.

10. Extended Upsell - If your product comes with a warranty, you could ask people if they would like to extend the warranty one more year for only $30.
